Historic Background of Silver Used as Medicine

History indicates that silver has been used for several thousand years for the treatment of numerous ailments, even dating back to ancient Egyptian times.

Before the invention of the refrigerator, people would place a silver coin in water or milk containers to keep the milk from going bad. Hundreds of years ago, wealthy householders who could afford silver drinking vessels and dinner plates, had better chances of surviving disease. Because each time they drank from their silver cups or ate from their silver plates, using silver cutlery, they consumed molecules of silver that killed off infectious diseases. Just a hundred years ago, medical doctors in some European countries, put a few drops of silver nitrate onto the eyes of new born babies, to stop conjunctivitis and other common eye infections, resulting from poor hygiene methods in hospitals. Before that discovery babies frequently contracted eye infections, often resulting in blindness after birth, as a direct consequence of poor hygiene.

Around the turn of the century silver was so widely used by the medical profession as an antibiotic and anti-infection treatment, that hundreds of manufacturers processed silver in numerous ways. Such methods included: 

a.  Creating heavy silver nitrate solution. (5% nitrate acid mixed with 95% water dissolved the silver metal. The resulting mixture becomes a dark grey to black colour, dependent on how long the silver is left to dissolve.)

b.  Mechanical grinding of silver to produce ultra fine silver particles. This was mixed in water or other fluid.

c.  Mixing with other acids or chemicals. 

d.  Generating strong electrical currents to produce dense colloids, and so forth. 

Most of these methods produced dense solutions of silver, but few created fine colloidal particles. Although it must be said that they were each and all powerful antibiotics. In the 1920's and 1930's the medical demand for silver had reached such a high level, that the price of pure silver had rocketed out of all proportion to its precious metal value, far higher than gold. It is said to have reached the equivalent of around US$1,000 an ounce at today's prices.

A colloid, according to the Concise Oxford Dictionary, is defined as follows: "1 Chem. a non-crystalline substance consisting of ultramicroscopic particles, esp. large single molecules, usu. dispersed through a second substance, as in gels, sols, and emulsions. 2 Med. a substance of a homogeneous gelatinous consistency."

True colloidal minerals should be made only with genuine distilled water, and electrodes of high purity of metal, (whether silver, gold or other metal), immersed in the distilled water. An electrical charge is passed between the two electrodes which brakes off microscopic particles of the metal. These microscopic metal particles will have a minute electrical charge around them, which causes them to float in the water. Ideally, the container used to make and store the colloidal mineral should be a darkened glass. It goes without saying that the production and bottling containers should be sterile. Such a colloidal mineral will have a long shelf life. No other substance should be added to the solution. The colloidal solution should be completely transparent, and dependent upon the particle size, the liquid may be colourless or have a lemon coloured tint to it, caused by the refractive index of light falling on the metal molecules. The taste will be only very slightly metallic.

Earlier this century when scientists conducted independent in-depth medical research into silver, they discovered the minute particles of minerals that were ultra-fine, sub-microscopic, which were absorbed or suspended in water, without being seen with the naked eye. The scientists discovered that the body's most important fluids, (blood, lymph), are colloidal in nature.

With the development of the new drug industries in the 1920's and 1930's, scientists considered that their new drugs were more superior (advanced) than 'old medicines'. And sadly, many old proven treatments, such as silver in its different forms, were discarded. The drug companies patented their new drugs. This was the major incentive for them demeaning the effectiveness of ancient proven remedies. The rise of the new drug industries caused silver to be forgotten for three or more decades. And now, within forty years of the development of antibiotics, many types of disease-causing organisms have built up immunity to the antibiotics, which is outwitting medical science.

There is every reason to presume that, to the extent that colloidal silver is effective at killing germs systemically on internal ingestion, it is because it is releasing silver ions in the body that this is taking place. It has even been stated by one leading pioneer in the alternative medicine field that it's at the precise moment when a silver ion gains or releases an electron that it has this antimicrobial affect.

Abstract
This retrospective study of silver-based therapeutics briefly reviews their history, and then explores the modern application of charged silver particles, especially as an antiviral agent. The recent outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) suggests this is timely. Medical literature shows that a variety of viruses have been successfully treated with silver based drugs. However, ‘silver salts’ and/or inferior silver preparations lack the bio-availability, active silver content and safety needed to be effective. State-of-the-art, electrolytically produced ‘oligodynamic’ Ag1, however, offers distinct advantages and versatility of use over older and cruder formulations. Possessing much smaller, subnanometer-sized particles, greater electrical potential and lower concentrations, it is more bio-available than other formulations. Efficacy against the SARS-related coronavirus, for example, may be enhanced when nebulized Ag1 is inhaled. This should achieve swift reduction of viral loads, especially in the early stages. Moreover, there is no known toxicity for Oligodynamic Ag1 in humans. The only known mechanism of resistance also appears to play no role notwithstanding the mutability of the coronavirus. Therefore no functional barrier to the virotoxic effects of oligodynamic Ag1 may be expected regardless of the rapidity or variety of mutations.

Method of curing AIDS with tetrasilver tetroxide molecular crystal devices Abstract The diamagnetic semiconducting molecular crystal tetrasilver tetroxide (Ag.sub.4 O.sub.4) is utilized for destroying the AIDS virus, destroying AIDS synergistic pathogens and immunity suppressing moieties (ISM) in humans. A single intravenous injection of the devices is all that is required for efficacy at levels of about 40 PPM of human blood. The device molecular crystal contains two mono and two trivalent silver ions capable of "firing" electrons capable of electrocuting the AIDS virus, pathogens and ISM. When administered into the bloodstream, the device electrons will be triggered by pathogens, a proliferating virus and ISM, and when fired will simultaneously trigger a redox chelation mechanism resulting in divalent silver moieties which chelate and bind active sites of the entities destroying them. The devices are completely non-toxic. However, they put stress on the liver causing hepatomegaly, but there is no loss of liver function.
